December 2005

Hello,

It has been an exciting year for Rodeo Software and RopingArena.com. There are now over 9,200 players registered at RopingArena.com and in April, we introduced TDRSim for Tie-down Roping (Calf Roping) competition. The interest has been high and it's good to see so many people out there who like that event. We want to thank all of you for your great support of all of our products. Our mission is to continue to create the realism in the simulators and the realism of the competition at RopingArena.com so that they continue to be an enjoyable family pastime.

In this issue you'll learn about this year's exciting year-end finals and the great prizes that await the winners. We'll also let you get to know the person behind the 'ELOSO' screen name at RopingArena.com.

BretTrenaryWho is 'ELOSO' and why is he so good?

Meet Bret Trenary, former NFR Header from Salida, Colorado

We recently asked 'ELOSO', the current standings leader at RopingArena.com, if we could do an interview. He consented and we were happily surprised to find out more about his background. Here's a copy of our interview with Bret. We appreciate his willingness to share with us.

How many years have you been roping? (Real roping) I have been roping about 35 years. I started when I was about 10.

Are you a header or a heeler? I do both. I headed full time for about 15 years. Won numerous year end titles. I headed at the 1987 NFR. After that I kind of got bored with heading and started heeling. I like it a lot better, because it is always a challenge.

How many years have you been roping online with TRSim? I have only been online for about a year. I had the game for about 2 years.

What is your USTRC number? #9

What correlation do you see between roping online and roping in a real jackpot or rodeo? A lot of the same principles apply. You can change the type of handle by where you head the steer from. You can also ride different types of heeling position.

Does TRSim help you at all in the real arena by keeping your eye or mind tuned? Yes, I think it does. You can play on the simulator, and then go rope real steers, and I think you are actually seeing the same look on both runs. I think real-life roping is mostly hand-eye coordination, what better way to work on this than on a simulation you can do over and over, again. There are people around here who have played and actually figured out how to score steers from this game. It is a really awesome concept.

There seem to be several online ropers from Salida, CO. Do you guys egg each other on with the online ropings? Yeah, we could have our own dollar jackpots if we wanted to. We are all pretty competitive. You can bet when someone is 3.1, everyone else is going to get the message, real quick. We all have yahoo messenger, so the messages happen fast.

How are you so fast with your online runs? I try to apply the heading techniques I learned as a kid. I try to score real good, try to reach when I can, and most importantly try to shut the arena off with the handle. That is an old time thing in the handle that most people don't know about these days. It always amazes me how most people think it is the heeler who is the key to a team, when all along it has always been the header.

Do you have any hints you would like to share with other online ropers on how to be fast and consistent? When I 1st started playing, I read an article that
Josh Canant did. He said that he liked to reach because it made the steers handle better. Us oldtimers like to reach and body time the steers, instead of timing the feet. In order to do this the steer must pop, or square off, whatever you want to call it. Reaching lets this happen more often, just like in real life. I never really like one to roll around the corner, because it just takes longer to catch up and time up with the steer's feet. For me, I feel like, on the game, there is about a 3 tenths of a second difference in the 2 times. It took me awhile to get this to happen, in all the different arenas. You can change where your head horse sits in the box, and accomplish this, but for me it is different in every arena.
